James | Week 1 | A Heart for Authentic Living | Taylors FBC Sermon

Posted on Jan 17 at 10:02am

January 17, 2016 | Sermon Notes

*Note: due to the Fire Alarm last week, Pastor Paul Jimenez will preach the same sermon at 10:30 am as was preached at 9:00 am on January 10.

Gospel giving: $746,153 in the month of December combined with REACH offering at $85,646.

James 1:1

Colossians 1:3-6

Colossians 1:9-10

Four Things that Distort Authentic Living

1. Apathy – we’re distant.

2. Consumer mindset – we’re distracted.

3. Broken – we’re ashamed.

4. Religious – we’re judgmental.

1. A heart for authentic living grows out of a place of humility.

A. Broken over our pride | James 4:6 and James 4:10, Psalm 18:27

B. Broken over sin | Psalm 51:17

The ideal church is a church where everybody is repenting publicly of something. The ideal church is where people are saying, ‘I struggle with this, and I don’t want it to define me, but I need you to cover my back in prayer. I struggle. I fail. I have been a Christian, and I want to struggle in the Lord.’ That is the ideal church. – Rosario Butterfield

C. Broken over our condition | Psalm 34:18-19

2. A heart for authentic living is developed among people in biblical community.

Call to Christ and His Word with others.

Call for honest application and accountability of that Word.

Call leaders to develop and invest in others.

3. A heart for authentic living seeks to impact those behind and beyond us.
