Interview with Travis Kerns // Send>North America: Salt Lake City City Coordinator

Genesis 47:27-31

Principles of a godly legacy

1. Revisit God’s personal call to use you for His eternal purposes.

The voices that lie to us and destroy our legacy:

1. I’ve messed up, missed out and it’s too late.

2. The responsibility isn’t mine.

3. I’ve earned the right to enjoy life and its pleasures.

4. It’s no use with the problems in culture, my family.

5. I’m disappointed and angry and bitter.

Dennis Rainey, Stepping Up: A Call to Courageous Manhood (2011), 181.

2. Recognize that our legacy begins right behind us but extends well beyond us.

3. The greatest legacy: to reveal the name of God to those who don’t know it.

June 16, 2013 Sermon Notes

Genesis 44:14-16

“That elephant is not chained to the stake; he’s chained to the idea that he can never get away. That’s a how a ten-pound stake can hold down a two-ton elephant.” – Steve Farrar, Finishing Strong

1. Grace is God’s response to our guilt.

2. Repentance is our response to God’s grace. Repentance: a change of heart, mind, behavior and actions.

What does repentance look like?

A. Sacrifice for others, not self-centeredness.

B. Honesty, not excuses.

C. Seize the second chance, no repeats.

D. The end result: healing and life-change.

Joseph: Dream to Destiny // forgiver

June 2, 2013 Sermon Notes

1. Forgiveness is not always comfortable or convenient.

2. Forgiveness fights the natural impulse to make others pay a price.

3. Forgiveness extends grace as far as we can in order for others to encounter God.

4. Forgiveness heals and deepens relationships, it just doesn’t “bury the hatchet.”

5. Forgiveness views God’s will and design as the center of all things.

6. Forgiveness imitates for others what Christ has done for us. (Eph. 4:32)
