Antioch | Week 2 | Power
October 25, 2015 | Sermon Notes
Southern Baptists have never had more money, personnel, curriculum, training materials, colleges, seminaries, books, and conferences. Yet, our influence – both in evangelistic success and permeation of culture – is waning. Something seems wrong about us and we are desperate to fix it. Our solutions are usually to reform denominational organization and purify doctrinal positions – and those choices are helpful. But, my concern is we are putting far too much emphasis on our ingenuity and intelligence and not enough on God’s initiative and power. – Jeff Iorg
Two extremes when we think of the Holy Spirit: Superstitious or Doctrinally-Rigid.
1. Embrace God’s work in changing the culture around you.
2. Develop people who will deepen and expand the growth of other believers.
3. Listen and carry out action that serves others and glorifies the Father.
59 times the Spirit shows up in the book of Acts. 36 times He speaks.
God’s Word and God’s Spirit operate together in one powerful dynamic. Pursuing one without the other leads to spiritual ruin, but pursuing one in the other leads to power and life. – J.D. Greear
What hinders it? Francis Chan: our services are no longer super or natural just plain predictable.
4. Send people to unreached, dark places.
How do we experience the Spirit’s work?
