December 14, 2014 Sermon Notes
Philippians | Week 10
1. Be rooted in Christ not swayed by your circumstances (Philippians 4:4)
Rejoice – a choice to trust Christ because he is in control.
Worry – a choice to distrust Christ when I have lost control.
Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, condenses worry to these things: what I look like, what people think of me, will I have enough, and what will happen in the future.
2. Bring worry to God (Philippians 4:6-7)
The energy and time and thought spent in worrying should be invested in praying.
Prayer is measured by weight not by length – C.H. Spurgeon.
Thanksgiving moves us from prayers of faithless desperation to faith-filled dependency.
Worry looks at God through circumstances. Peace looks at circumstances through God – Adrian Rogers
The answer to prayer is often a changed perspective – heart and mind – not a changed circumstance.
3. Cultivate and imitate Christ-like thoughts and practices (Philippians 4:8-9)
Direct line between what we fill our minds with and what we choose to believe and practice.
Direct line between what we watch and what we do.
