The mission of the team going to Jamestown, NC was to partner with Refuge Sports in the eventual launch of a Nepali speaking church in the TRIAD area of North Carolina. Our goal was to help build relationships and plant gospel seeds with the Nepali speaking families and to encourage the Myanmar Church in Jamestown thru a reading and recreation camp for 1st thru 8th graders.
As I look back on our trip, I can praise the Lord for guiding us throughout the trip as we made some adjustments and as we worked together to help each other to make it a wonderful week for the many children that came. The camp drew in about 35 to 40 children and allowed us to work together to give attention to all the children throughout the camp! We were able to talk about God, the Bible, and Hymns through the books we read and for the older group by hearing/seeing “God all Nations.” In addition, daily they saw the love of Christ through all the volunteers and being with each other. There was a sweet Godly spirit at Camp! We had a great time being with Pastor Bishu and his family and getting to know them. They are a sweet, gentle, and Godly family and wonderful to be around. He is/will make a great Pastor. We will continue to pray for them to be fully settled and all things provided so they can fully focus on their ministry to others and starting the church.
I appreciate the preparation, perseverance, and hard work by our team. We were a small team, but God did immeasurably more than we could have imagined with His help. I am thankful for the time we had together as a group and for our morning devotions. One verse that highlights our morning devotions is Matthew 18:4 ”Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” An Our Daily Bread quote from August 2 that goes along with this verse is “When we see a spark of hope in children, our job as adults is to help ignite it. And as God leads us, encourage them toward a life dedicated to trust in Jesus and service for Him.” Another verse that was put on a team member’s heart was Exodus 24:7. “Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, ‘All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient;'” highlighting to us the importance of reading God’s Word. While we did not read God’s Word to them, the children were inspired to read and our prayer is that they will desire to read and study God’s Word!
